A baby in a snowsuit on a parent’s lap beside a pram

Short answer: A warm carrycot is not just thicker padding. It combines insulation that slows heat loss, ventilation that lets moisture and warm air out, and a mattress base that breathes. Noordi’s THERMOCOT™ does this two ways: as an insulating carrycot shell on Fjordi V.2, and as a ribbed insulating pad under the memory mattress on Aqua V.2. Whatever the pram, dress your baby for the weather and check their temperature by feeling the chest or back of the neck.

On a frosty northern morning a carrycot has two jobs at once: keep the cold out and keep the baby from getting sweaty under layers. The second matters as much as the first, because damp clothes cool quickly once you stop walking.

How does an insulated carrycot work?

ElementWhat it does
Insulating shell or padSlows heat loss through the base and sides, where cold air and cold ground draw warmth away
VentilationLets warm, moist air escape so the inside does not turn clammy
Breathing mattress baseRibs or channels under the mattress let air move and carry moisture away
Wind cover and canopyBlock wind chill while leaving a window for air and a look inside
LengthRoom for a winter suit without squeezing — 81 cm inside on Noordi prams

THERMOCOT™ on Fjordi V.2

On Fjordi V.2, THERMOCOT™ is the carrycot itself: an ultralight insulating shell, 3.2 kg, designed to help keep the temperature and airflow inside steady — sheltered on a cold, windy morning, fresher on a sunny afternoon. A ribbed base lets air move beneath the mattress, and ventilation, a wind cover with a peek-a-boo window and an adjustable canopy let you fine-tune it as the weather turns.

THERMOCOT™ on Aqua V.2

On Aqua V.2, THERMOCOT™ is an insulating, ribbed pad under a memory mattress. It helps keep warmth in on cold days, lets air move underneath and carries moisture away, while 3X ventilation and Silver-ION treated inner fabrics keep the carrycot fresh.

How to avoid overheating

  • Feel your baby’s chest or the back of the neck, not hands or feet, to judge temperature.
  • Remove a layer when you go indoors, onto a bus or into a shop — even for a few minutes.
  • In warm weather, never cover the carrycot with a blanket or muslin; it traps heat. Use the canopy and ventilation instead.
  • In cold weather, layers and a leg cover are better than one very thick suit.
  • Hats come off indoors and while your baby sleeps somewhere warm.

Important: insulation helps a carrycot keep a steadier climate, but it does not replace dressing your baby for the day. On Noordi product pages, illustrations of THERMOCOT™ show how it is designed to work — they are not lab measurements.

Frequently asked questions

What is THERMOCOT™?

Noordi’s name for its insulating carrycot technology: an insulating carrycot shell on Fjordi V.2 and an insulating ribbed pad under the mattress on Aqua V.2.

Which pram is warmest for winter?

Look for an insulated carrycot with good ventilation, a wind cover and enough length for a winter suit. Fjordi V.2 and Aqua V.2 both have THERMOCOT™ insulation.

How do I know if my baby is too hot in the pram?

Feel the chest or back of the neck. If it is hot or sweaty, remove a layer.

Can I cover a pram with a blanket in the sun?

No. Covering a pram traps heat. Use the canopy and ventilation and keep to the shade.

Does an insulated carrycot mean fewer clothes?

It helps keep a steadier climate, but you still need to dress your baby for the weather, in layers you can remove.

Warmth and fresh air together make for the calmest naps outside — in a northern winter and on a sunny spring day alike.
