Mother with a Noordi Fjordi V.2 pram in a quiet pine forest

Short answer: A Scandinavian pram is built for long daily walks outdoors, in any weather. That usually means large wheels, real suspension, a deep insulated carrycot for naps outside, and calm, durable design that lasts through more than one child. The name describes a way of using a pram more than a country of origin.

Some days, the best destination is simply outside.

In Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Finland, that idea shaped how prams are made. A baby naps in fresh air on the balcony, the family walks the forest path after lunch, and the pram is expected to handle gravel, roots, snow and rain without fuss.

What makes a pram “Scandinavian”?

FeatureWhy it matters on a real walk
Large wheelsRoll over roots, gravel and cobbles instead of getting stuck in them
Suspension on the chassisA calmer ride for a sleeping baby on uneven paths
Deep, insulated carrycotOutdoor naps in cool weather, with room for a snowsuit
Lie-flat position from birthA healthy position for newborns on long walks
Durable fabrics and frameRain, sun and years of use, often for a second child
Calm, timeless designMuted colours that don’t date after one season
None of this is about looking minimal. It’s about a pram you take outside every day and forget about, because it just works.

Do you need a pram made in Scandinavia?

Not necessarily. Many “Scandinavian” prams are designed in the Nordics and produced elsewhere, including in Asia. What you want is the outdoor approach above, plus honest answers to three questions: where is it made, what safety standard is it tested to, and who repairs it if something breaks?

We’ll be open about it: Noordi is not a Scandinavian company. We are a family brand from Kaunas, Lithuania, on the Baltic Sea. Our prams are designed around a Nordic way of life (our logo is drawn from Store Skagastølstind, a peak in Norway) and made in our own factory, which has produced prams since 1993. Frames, sewing, assembly and testing happen under one roof, and every pram is tested to EN 1888. See how a Noordi pram is made.

Two Nordic-inspired prams from Noordi

One for long walks on any path, one for days when the pram has to fit into a train, a café or a small hallway.

Five quick checks before you choose

  1. Push it over something uneven. A kerb, a doormat, gravel. Does it rattle, or glide?
  2. Look at the carrycot depth. In autumn and winter your baby wears layers. Check there’s room.
  3. Fold it one-handed. Imagine holding a baby in the other arm.
  4. Ask where it’s made and who repairs it. A two-year warranty means little without a real service point.
  5. Check the standard. EN 1888 is the European safety standard for prams. More on EN 1888.
